Abstract:
The discovery of Bayshinoryctes shuvalovi , a new genus and species of stem placentals from the Late Cretaceous (Turonian - Santonian) Bayshin Tsav locality in the Gobi Desert, fills a gap in the sequence of Cretaceous mammalian faunas of Mongolia. In combination with the coeval faunas of Uzbekistan, this record characterizes an important stage in the diversification of placental mammals in the first half of the Late Cretaceous in Asia.
