Abstract:
The article provides a brief overview of the results of the study of autigenic iron monosulfides - magnetic greigite and non-magnetic mackinawite in sediments of two regions of the World Ocean. Both of these minerals are involved in the formation of micro-and macroconcretions, which makes them more stable and allows them to participate in the process of diagenesis. Greigite is very widespread in recovered Quaternary sedimentary deposits. Its detection in sediments makes it possible to reconstruct the diagenetic processes at the bottom of the seas and oceans.
